Open and edit a Word document without Word

Golem Docs opens .docx files in your browser and edits them with true page layout, tables, columns, comments, and equations. There is nothing to install and no account to make, and the file stays on your device.

How to open one

Drop the .docx onto the window, or choose File ▸ Open. Older Word 97–2003 (.doc) files open too, and save as .docx. When you are done, choose File ▸ Download to get the .docx back.

What it handles

• Page layout drawn the way it prints, with headers, footers, and page numbers.
• Tables, columns, and comments.
• LaTeX equations, and spelling and grammar checking.
• Pictures, which you can pick, move, resize, and open in the picture editor.
• Other word processors' files: OpenDocument Text (.odt) and Rich Text (.rtf).

It looks and feels like Word 2003, with menus and toolbars and no ribbon to hunt through.
