Edit vector drawings in your browser
Open an SVG or compressed SVG (.svgz) in Golem Docs and it opens as a drawing you can edit: draw shapes, reshape paths, add gradients and brush strokes, and save it as SVG again. Nothing is uploaded, so your artwork stays on your device.
A drawing, not a picture
SVG files are not pictures made of pixels, so they have a kind of their own, listed under Vector in the format list. A drawing stays sharp at any zoom, and saving it again keeps everything the file had, including parts the editor does not change, such as filters.
Draw and select
The Drawing menu and toolbar have the tools.
- Select: click to pick a shape, Shift to add more, or drag a box around several. Drag to move, use the handles to resize, and the round handle to rotate; hold Shift to keep proportions or turn in 15 degree steps.
- Shapes: rectangle, ellipse, and line.
- Pen: click for corners, drag for smooth curves, and click the first point to close the path.
- Text: click anywhere and type.
- Edit points: double-click a path to move its points and curve handles, add a point on the line, or delete one.
Color, gradients, and strokes
- Fill and outline: pick a color for each, or none, and set the outline width.
- Gradients: choose a linear or radial fill, then drag its points and stops right on the drawing. Double-click the line to add a stop.
- Stroke styles: dashes, dots, and arrowheads; lines that taper or swell; calligraphic pens; dry brush and chalk; patterns repeated along a path; and scattered shapes such as stars and confetti. A stroke keeps its path, so you can reshape the line afterwards.
Arrange
- Layers: a panel lists every shape. Hide or lock one, rename it, or drag it to a new place in the order or into a group.
- Group, order, and duplicate: bring shapes to the front, send them back, or copy them.
- Combine shapes: unite, intersect, subtract, or exclude to make one shape from several.
- Clipping masks: cut shapes to the outline of the one on top.
- Snapping: shapes snap to each other and to the page edges, with guide lines. Hold Alt to turn it off for a moment.
Undo and redo step through every change.
Convert it
A drawing converts like any other document. To PDF it stays vector, with its curves, gradients, and clips. To PNG, JPEG, or WebP it becomes a picture at full resolution, and in a Word file it becomes a page with the picture on it. Going the other way, any document can become SVG: its text stays as text, in place, so you can still edit the words. See what each conversion keeps.
Ask Clip
Clip, the assistant, can read a drawing and change it for you: add shapes, recolor them, group and arrange them, combine them, and apply gradients and strokes. Each change is one step you can undo.
